AME Attends PCMI Conference In Chicago

A company’s vision should reflect its passion for moving forward.  In the photochemical machining industry, it is imperative for manufacturers to explore emerging technologies and then subsequently decide how to implement these new technologies into their processes.  The photochemical machining industry produces over $6 billion of precise metal parts annually.

As requirements for thinner and lighter components increase, as well as specialized applications, the industry must accommodate the demand. The Photo Chemical Machining Institute (PCMI), established in 1967, provides an outlet for sharing knowledge and experience with other manufacturers in the industry.  Advanced Metal Etching, a member for years, attended the PCMI conference with the goal to explore new specialized equipment, process improvements, and new technologies.

The PCMI conference in May did not disappoint as we gained a wealth of beneficial knowledge from experts in business development, quality,  environmental compliance, and professors of chemical and biological engineering, to name a few. Here are some of the notable takeaways from the conference.

Transition To New ISO 9001:2015 Standards

The new ISO 9001:2015 standards are more customer-focused as they use risk analysis to foresee challenges.  These procedures enable companies to prevent problems in the photochemical machining processes which can save the customer time and money. Increased employee engagement and management leadership will ensure that everyone is involved in the quality process.  Advanced Metal Etching, Inc. is committed to continual improvement, and we are proud to announce that we met the highest quality standard in the industry with our new ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

Trends In Product And Part Design

Photochemical machining will continue to be the preferred source for the production of smaller, thinner and lighter parts requiring a flat, burr-free edge and surface, satisfying recent trends in the aerospace and electronic industries.  The demand for smaller consumer products will drive the photochemical machining industry to produce parts with tighter tolerances, thinner line widths and smaller apertures with greater functionality.  As customers incorporate new alloys into their product designs,  photochemical machining capabilities will remain conducive to many types of metals.

Product Growth

Technology driven industries such as aerospace, automotive (driverless cars), computer, commercial, consumer electronics, energy generating equipment, cooling and filtration systems and medical devices will keep photochemical etching companies committed to learning new processes, investing in new equipment, and practicing lean manufacturing while keeping costs low for the customers. Advanced Metal Etching is constantly evaluating our processes and making improvements to deliver quality custom etched parts for these industries.

These are just a few of the topics discussed at the PCMI conference in May.  Our goal is to keep abreast of industry standards and technologies to provide our customers with quality precision products and services.
